From Protection to Care: Concrete Evidence of the State's Presence for Indonesian Workers

BEKASI - Deep grief still envelops the family of the late Adelia who died in the Electric Train Accident (KRL) with Argo Bromo Anggrek on April 27, 2026. In the midst of this loss, the state is present to ensure that the families left behind continue to receive protection and certainty of their rights.

Almarhumah Adelia is known to have been registered as a participant in BPJS Employment since January 2026. Even though the membership period has only been running for four months, the protection benefits still apply in full with a total of 298 million IDR in death benefits.

Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Nihayatul Wafiroh together with the Director of BPJS Employment Participation, Agung Nugroho and Member of the Supervisory Board of BPJS Employment Ujang Romli visited the family of the late Adelia at her residence in Cibitung, West Java to convey sincere condolences on the late's departure. The presence of the Deputy Commission IX of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia and the BPJS Employment ranks is a tangible manifestation of the state's concern and commitment in protecting Indonesian workers.

Nihayatul said that this event was a reminder of the importance of Employment Social Security in protecting every Indonesian worker, especially in unexpected risk situations.

"Today we from Commission IX of the DPR RI and BPJS Employment, condolences to the family of Adelia who was a victim of a train accident and at the same time handed over the death guarantee allowance, the allowance was handed over to the heirs, hopefully this allowance can be useful for the family, of course this is not to replace Adelia's life," said Nihayatul, Tuesday, May 5.

Nihayatul also added that all stakeholders, especially employers, should ensure compliance in registering their employees into the employment social security program so that if there is a risk, workers will receive employment social security protection.

"Adelia became a new employee for 4 months but has been registered in full, this is for me an extraordinary commitment because some new companies register employees after working 6 months or 1 year, but this company has registered since the employee started working, so I appreciate it and this is what employers must continue to do so that all companies register their employees in the BPJS Employment program at the beginning of work," he added.

After receiving information about the KRL accident with the Argo Bromo train, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan immediately moved quickly to coordinate with various parties to ensure the status of the deceased's membership and the completeness of the administration. This step is taken so that all rights that are obligations can be processed immediately and provided without obstacles.

On this occasion, BPJS Employment directly handed over the death guarantee compensation to the family/relatives of the deceased. This compensation is expected to help alleviate the burden of the family left behind, although it will never replace the loss felt.

On the same occasion, the Director of BPJS Employment Participation, Agung Nugroho, conveyed the institution's commitment to ensuring that each participant and his family receive optimal protection. He emphasized that BPJS Employment not only plays a role as a program organizer, but also exists as part of the state that provides certainty and tranquility for workers in the face of various life risks.

"We express our condolences to the families left behind, when we learned that there was an accident on this KRL, we immediately coordinated with the relevant agencies and we immediately ensured that the victims could immediately receive treatment, for those who were injured and those who died could immediately receive compensation for their heirs," said Agung.

"As a form of commitment to comprehensive protection for participants, BPJS Employment ensures that it will bear all the costs of treatment for KRL accident victims until they are declared healed according to medical indications. Not only that, during the recovery period where participants cannot return to work, BPJS Employment also provides Temporary Incapacity Benefit (STMB) as a substitute for income, so that participants can still meet their living needs more calmly," added Agung.

This incident is a reminder to all parties of the importance of protecting employment social security. Risks can occur at any time, and this protection is a form of the state's presence in providing a sense of security for workers and their families.

BPJS Employment also invites all employers and workers, both Wage Recipients (PU) and Non-Wage Recipients (BPU), to ensure that they have been registered and active in the employment social security program, as a step to protect against various work risks in the future.

Head of the Jakarta Plaza BPJS Manpower Branch Office, BP Jamsostek, Ramdani, added that the speed of service in delivering participants' rights was the main priority, especially in emergency situations such as accidents. "We are committed to proactively ensuring that every participant under the coordination of the Jakarta Plaza BPJS Manpower Branch Office Jamsostek receives maximum assistance," said Ramdani.

He emphasized that social security protection is a basic right for every worker that must be fulfilled from the first day they work. Ramdani appreciated companies that have a high awareness in registering their employees on time, as was done by the company where the deceased worked.

"What Adelia experienced proves that the risk of work does not look at the period of service. Although the deceased had only been with us for four months, the protection provided was still intact. For this reason, we appeal to all companies in the Jakarta Plaza BP Jamsostek area not to delay the registration of their employees," concluded Ramdani.
