Central Java Be Cautious! The Province's COVID-19 Death Toll Is The Highest Rate This Week

JAKARTA - Member of the expert team of the COVID-19 Task Force, Dewi Nur Aisyah, presented data on the development of the COVID-19 death rate over the past week. As a result, Central Java became the province with the highest death rate.

"For the death toll in the past week there were 1.208 deaths, of which the highest contributions came from the provinces of Central Java, East Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, and Riau", Dewi said at the COVID-19 Task Force Coordination Meeting, Monday, June 7.

In detail, over the past week, Central Java had 226 COVID-19 deaths, East Java 172, West Java 137, DKI Jakarta 134, and Riau 104. These five provinces accounted for 64 percent of the national death toll in the past week.

Continuing, the Spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, explained that the regions that contributed the most to COVID-19 deaths in Central Java were Semarang City with 1.863 deaths, Surakarta City 605, Pati Regency 413, Rembang Regency 362, and Kudus Regency 361 deaths.

Wiku explained that the high death rate for COVID-19 was due to poor patient handling. Currently, the most worrying condition of care is in Kudus.

"Currently, the occupancy of isolation beds in Kudus is 96.67 percent and the ICU is 92.86 percent. For example, if there are more beds, maybe there won't be an explosion of cases and high death rates in Kudus", explained Wiku

Wiku said that if areas with high mortality rates in Central Java did not convert general treatment beds to COVID-19 special ones, the same thing as in Kudus would happen.

"These cities should immediately anticipate because there will be an explosion in the future if we don't do (anticipate) like in Kudus. Immediately add the bed conversion for COVID, both ICU, and isolation", he concluded.
