Several Things That Make Airlangga Confidence In The National Economy Growing 8 Percent In The Second Quarter Of 2021

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is optimistic that economic growth in the second quarter of the April to June 2021 period can reach 8 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy).

"In terms of the economy, we see that the projected growth is still estimated at between 6.7 to 7.5 percent. The government believes that this second quarter we can afford 7 to 8 percent," he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, June 7.

Furthermore, Airlangga said the government's optimism was supported by the Indonesian Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) manufacturing industry purchasing index (PMI) which reached 55.3 in May 2021 or the highest in history.

Not only that, said Airlangga, sales of motorized vehicles increased after the tax stimulus was implemented. Car sales recorded a 228 percent increase yoy, while motorcycle sales were 227 percent.

"Then retail sales have also increased 9.8 percent yoy and the consumer confidence index is already above 100 percent. We can also see that national spending growth as of the end of April has also increased by 60.43 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, Airlangga said the implementation of the PEN program had reached 29.9 percent of the ceiling, an increase of 86.7 trillion from the first quarter which reached Rp123.206 trillion.

"Similarly with activities in five sectors. Health has reached 18.8 percent realization, social protection 39.2 percent. Then 28 percent priority programs, 21 percent corporate support and 79.9 percent incentives for business," he explained.
