Permenhut 6/2026 is the Key to Business Stability in the Carbon Project

JAKARTA - The Chief Advisor to the Minister of Forestry, Edo Mahendra, assessed that the Minister of Forestry Regulation (Permenhut) Number 6 of 2026 is a key instrument that provides clarity and stability for business actors to accelerate carbon projects in the country.

"We from the Ministry of Forestry ensure that Indonesia is at the forefront of the global carbon market, not just a follower. We will fulfill all the necessary components to place Indonesia's credibility in the eyes of the world," said Edo, quoted by Antara.

Furthermore, he said this Ministerial Regulation carries three main spirits, namely as an executor of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 110 of 2025, providing certainty for the sustainability of carbon projects, and balancing environmental targets (FOLU Net Sink and NDC) with new economic growth.

Edo hopes that this regulation can become a reference regarding the new direction of the national green economy by related stakeholders such as the business and industrial world, as well as carbon project developers.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) also welcomed this initiative, and emphasized that the key to the success of the carbon market lies not only in regulations on paper, but in trust and coordination between parties.

"Close cooperation between the government, project developers, and financial institutions is essential for the transition to field implementation," said Deputy Chairman of the Coordinating Board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shinta Kamdani.

Similarly, Deputy Chairman of the Environment Sector of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dharsono Hartono, called this regulation an important milestone in strengthening the national carbon market architecture.

"As the largest economy in Southeast Asia, this policy has a major implication on regional and international market confidence," said Dharsono.

The industrial world also highlighted several crucial points regulated in Permenhut 6/2026, including clarity regarding the parties that are eligible as initiators of projects, and the procedures for issuing forest carbon credits.

Then, the mechanism of participation in the international market, including the Corresponding Adjustment, and the environmental and social safeguard mechanisms as well as dispute settlement to maintain market integrity.

In addition, industry players also provided important input regarding the need for follow-up implementation rules. Issues regarding project risk management, including the potential for revocation of approval, are a major concern to ensure long-term investment security.
