PSI criticizes the handling of thuggery in Jakarta: Our governor is weak

JAKARTA - Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) politician and member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Justin Adrian Untayana criticized the handling of hooliganism in the capital which was considered not optimal.

According to him, the prevalence of the practice of thuggery in economically valuable areas shows the weak response of the local government in maintaining order and security.

Justin assessed that the condition was inseparable from the lack of firmness of the regional leadership in handling various social issues, including fights.

"Actually, the DKI Provincial Government's inability to anticipate and respond to this problem of thuggery is not surprising. Our governor is 'weak'. The problem of fighting alone cannot be solved and continues to occur repeatedly. Moreover, those who are more organized like thuggery," said Justin, Wednesday, April 22.

He encouraged local governments to take more decisive steps, including sanctions against social offenders.

"I have encouraged the Governor to dare to withdraw social assistance (social assistance) for one family card (KK) if his children or other family members are involved in fights. But, that's just the Governor who seems reluctant. Therefore, problems like this will not disappear without a firm attitude," he explained.

According to Justin, a persuasive approach alone is not enough to suppress deviant behavior in society. In addition, he also highlighted the performance of the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) which was considered less responsive in handling problems in the field.

"On the other hand, our Satpol PP is also not moving actively. It seems that Satpol PP only comes down if there is an incident that is then viralized by the community. This shows that there is a wrong passivity," said Justin.

Justin even revealed public suspicions about the possibility of individuals' involvement in illegal collection and illegal parking practices.

"I don't know if it's because it's passive, or maybe there's already cooperation with the perpetrators of poaching, extortion (extortion), and illegal parking. Hopefully there won't be, but seeing this incident happen again and again, it's not wrong if the community also has such suspicions," he said.

He assessed that in terms of human resources and budget, the DKI Provincial Government should be able to handle the problem. Justin alluded to the large number of apparatus and the allocation of budget for cross-departmental coordination.

"The Governor of DKI has thousands of ASN and more than hundreds of PJLP. So, in terms of quantity, human resources should not be lacking. Our grant for Forkopimda as a coordination platform for cross-agencies is also not small, namely Rp. 315 billion," he said.

Justin emphasized that dealing with hooliganism must be a serious concern because it is directly related to public safety and the use of public funds.

"This is also related to the taxes of Jakarta residents who need to be held accountable. Don't let the spending of billions of rupiah be in vain because the DKI Provincial Government can't crack down on gangsterism that continues to harm the community," he added.
