South Korean-Japanese SAR team searches for Indonesian migrant workers who fell into the sea on Dokdo Island

JAKARTA - The South Korean and Japanese Coast Guard Search and Rescue (SAR) teams continued joint rescue operations for the loss of an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) working as a ship crew near Dokdo Island on Saturday local time.

PMI in his 20s who was on the fishing boat fell into the sea about 195 kilometers northeast of Dokdo Island at around 11:15 on Friday, March 27 local time.

According to local officials, the ships involved in the search were a 5,000-ton South Korean ship and a 1,250-ton Japanese ship, including civilian fishing vessels also joined the search operation.

A coast guard official whose country is taking part in the search said his side would do its best to find the crew of the PMI ship lost in waters between the two countries on South Korea's easternmost island.

The Indonesian government has not yet provided information regarding the disappearance of the Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).
