Anwar: Meeting with Prabowo opens constructive space to face conflicts

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta was meaningful and opened up constructive space in finding common ground in facing the West Asian conflict.

"The meaningful meeting with President Prabowo today opens up a constructive space in finding common ground to face conflicts in West Asia, which is now pressing the world's energy security and economic stability," Anwar Ibrahim said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 27.

He conveyed that in the increasingly severe global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia emphasized the importance of strengthening regional solidarity based on principles to maintain peace, ensure stability, and strengthen economic resilience for the welfare of the people.

Anwar and Prabowo agreed to increase diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open up space for negotiations towards a peaceful and sustainable solution.

"At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured not to be disrupted," Anwar said.

Anwar also conveyed his dialogue through telephone calls in recent times with international leaders, as an effort to show solidarity, align views, and review global impacts, especially in the aspects of energy and regional security.

"Malaysia remains firm in its stance, rejects violence, upholds international law, and urges all parties to return to the path of peace," Anwar said.
