Two Thieves of Ship Cables in Muara Baru Port Arrested
JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Baru Police Station arrested two perpetrators of stealing cables of a number of ships with a total loss of tens of millions of rupiah.
The two perpetrators, initials S alias I and MRI alias S, are residents of South Sulawesi. They were arrested after being reported by the victim who was a victim of theft.
The two acted on the KM Indah Jaya Makmur ship, the KM Putra Anugerah Berjaya ship and the KM Indah Jaya Makmur 9 ship while leaning on Jalan Gang Kepiting, Muara Baru Port, North Jakarta.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Baru Area Police, Ipda Fauzi Widi, said that the modus operandi of the two perpetrators was to steal cables together on a ship that was resting at the Muara Baru Port.
The incident was only known when the victim with the initials S checked the three boats.
After checking the three boats, there were several cables that were stolen. The suspicion was strengthened by the discovery of several cables that were cut.
"The victim reported to the Muara Baru Police, he suffered a loss of Rp. 51,364,000," said Ipda Fauzi when confirmed, Friday, March 13, 2026.
From the hands of the second suspect, the evidence seized was 10 pieces of 2 x 2.5 cm electronic electrical cable, 4 pieces of 4 x 1.5 cm hydraulic hose cable measuring 2.5 meters.
1 unit of white plastic sack textile, sales note, 2 pieces of cable size 2 x 1.5 cm long 3 meters, sales note, 1 blue plastic sack and 1 black Suzuki Satria FU motorcycle B 3897 CFT.
"The modus operandi, the suspect S alias I played a role in inviting the suspect MRI alias S to commit cable theft on board the ship," said the investigator.
Meanwhile, the suspect MRI alias S played a role in helping the suspect S alias I oversee the theft of the cable.
"MRI alias S also participated in collecting the stolen cable results on the ship," he said.
For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding the crime of theft.
