Tokayev Scheduled to Visit Indonesia in July, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon to Organize "Cultural Forum" and Encourage Kazakhstan Film Co-production

JAKARTA - The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Fadli Zon discussed strengthening the cooperation of Indonesian-Kazakh culture with Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 3. The focus of the discussion was directed at concrete agendas ahead of the plan for the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Indonesia in July 2026.

Fadjroel said the state visit was still in coordination, including at the level of the foreign ministries of the two countries. In addition to political and business forums, a cultural forum will be prepared featuring a collaborative Indonesian-Kazakh art performance. The Minister of Culture responded by preparing a mapping of the performance location and opening the option of signing a memorandum of understanding between ministries in the field of culture during the visit.

Outside the stage of the performance, the two parties mapped out cooperation in pencak silat. Kazakhstan is said to have rapid development and achievements in a number of world championships. Fadli emphasized that what was driven from the cultural side was its tradition - pencak silat as a non-tangible cultural heritage - not just a sports branch. One of the options discussed was the dispatch of pencak silat practitioners to Kazakhstan to strengthen the art and tradition dimensions.

The discussion also touched on films. Fadjroel conveyed the interest of Kazakhstani directors to produce in several points in Indonesia. He also mentioned that a number of Indonesian films have been translated into Russian and shown in joint viewing activities. Menbud offers a co-production scheme with partners in Indonesia, while encouraging the participation of Kazakhstani filmmakers in the JAFF Market and Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival to strengthen the common ecosystem.

Cooperation between museums was also opened, including a proposal for support for Indonesia's participation in the international singing competition "Voice of Turan" which was attended by about 20 countries. According to Fadjroel, this stage can be a promotional channel that makes the Indonesian cultural character more "nempel" in the Central Asian region.

The meeting was attended by the Expert Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Inter-Institutional Relations Ismunandar and the Director General of Diplomacy, Promotion, and Cultural Cooperation Endah T.D. Retnoastuti.
