MUI Supports Indonesia to Become a Peacemaker in the US-Iran War
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) supports President Prabowo Subianto as a peacemaker in the US-Iran war which is now escalating and escalating and affecting the political conditions of the world.
"We support the President's efforts to become a peacemaker, because in Islam, reconciling warring parties is an act of high value. However, it must still pay attention to the principle of Indonesia's foreign policy which is free and active as well as maintaining security and domestic interests," said Deputy Chairman of the MUI Cholil Nafis as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 3.
He also emphasized that the Indonesian constitution entrusts to participate in creating world peace.
Therefore, he said, the steps of the President of the Republic of Indonesia who wants to play a role as a peacemaker need to be supported.
"We fully support, without being pessimistic, while remaining realistic about the capacity and diplomatic corridors that exist," he said.
Regarding the escalating conflict that is getting hotter, MUI emphasized that all people certainly want a peaceful world.
Therefore, Cholil condemned the attack on Iran, but also advised that the response to the attack should not go beyond the limits, especially to the extent of disturbing neighboring countries or the two holy cities of Muslims, Mecca and Medina.
"Conflicts should not develop into regional conflicts or trigger world conflicts. Retaliatory attacks should not extend beyond the military targets involved," he said.
Iran's capital, Tehran, on Tuesday witnessed a new wave of explosions following Israel's military announcement of the latest attack.
"Warplanes of the Zionist regime targeted a number of locations in Tehran since Tuesday morning local time," said an Anadolu correspondent's report.
Iranian media also reported a new explosion in the city of Isfahan in the central Iranian region.
Despite the new attack, there was no immediate official statement identifying the locations targeted in Tehran and Isfahan.
Israel earlier announced it had launched what it called a "preemptive" attack on Iran under the name "Operation Lion's Roar" on Saturday (28/2), local time, and imposed a "special and immediate" state of emergency throughout the country.
