Dharma Jaya prepares to import an additional 600 cows, claiming that the meat stock is safe until Eid

JAKARTA - Perumda Dharma Jaya ensures that the stock of beef and chicken is in a safe condition ahead of Ramadan to Eid al-Fitr 2026. The DKI Jakarta BUMD also prepared additional supplies of imported cattle to anticipate a surge in demand.

The President Director of Perumda Dharma Jaya Raditya Endra Budiman said that currently there are 1,246 tons of beef and 435 tons of chicken meat. In addition, there are 1,594 live cows ready to be cut according to market needs.

"God willing, at the end of February, there will be another 500 to 600 cows from Australia. This will be an additional stock for Jakarta, even if necessary, we still have a reserve of around 1,000 more that can be used to help stabilize prices," said Raditya in a discussion at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, February 11.

Raditya explained that the meat needs in Jakarta are quite large. In a year, the demand for beef reaches around 73,100 tons, while chicken is 182,230 tons. Increased consumption usually occurs during Ramadan, especially from the hotel, restaurant, and cafe (horeka) sectors.

"If you look at the statistics, the largest use is in the horeka sector. Restaurants during the fasting break are almost always full. That's why the demand remains high and we have taken it into account in the stock planning," he said.

To maintain affordability, Dharma Jaya sells premium hind leg beef in the range of Rp. 135,000 per kilogram, lower than the market price which is in the range of Rp. 139,500 to Rp. 140,000 per kilogram.

"For some other types of cuts, it can even be lower. In principle, we want to provide the best price for the people of Jakarta," said Raditya.

In addition to supply, Dharma Jaya strengthens the storage infrastructure. Currently, there is a 800-ton capacity cold storage in Cakung. In the future, capacity will be increased through the construction of a new cooling warehouse with a capacity of 5,000 tons.

Raditya emphasized that coordination was being carried out with related agencies and business actors to keep distribution running smoothly.

"Under the direction of the service, we coordinate with various parties so that supplies continue to run and prices can be controlled. In principle, we are ready to support food stability in Jakarta," he said.

DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Uus Kuswanto ensures the availability of safe beef until Eid al-Fitr. Based on the DKI Provincial Government's projection, the demand for beef before Ramadan increased by about 3.57 percent, while chicken meat during Eid al-Fitr is expected to jump 10.77 percent.

"For beef stocks, God willing, it is safe. Its availability is expected to be sufficient until the end of Eid al-Fitr," he said.
