2026 Asian Badminton Championships, Japan and South Korea New Champions

JAKARTA - Japan and South Korea emerged as champions from the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) 2026. This is the first title for both countries in the tournament.

The tournament, which took place at the Qingdao Conson Gymnasium, China, completed the series of matches on Sunday, February 8, 2026. The compact host women's and men's teams entered the final but failed to bring home the title.

In the women's category, South Korea, led by world number one shuttler An Se-young, stopped the hosts mercilessly 3-0. She came down in the first game to pave the way by defeating Han Qianxi two games 21-7 and 21-14.

The women's doubles Baek Ha-na/Kim Hye-jeong then made the score 2-0 by defeating the pair of Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian in two straight games which ended 24-22 and 21-8.

South Korea then secured the title through Kim Ga-eun as the second women's singles to enter the third match. He ended the match by defeating the 2024 junior world champion, Xu Wen Jing, with a score of 19-21, 21-10, and 21-17.

China was hit again on the same day when it lost the final match in the men's category against Japan with a score of 0-3.

Japan's victory was opened by Yushi Tanaka's performance. He led his country to victory after defeating the 2024 junior world champion, Hu Zhe An, with a score of 21-10 and 21-18.

Kakeru Kumagai/Hiroki Nishi then created a surprise in the men's doubles by defeating He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu in three games 21-17, 14-21, and 21-15.

Japan's victory was then confirmed by Koki Watanabe. He did not waste the opportunity by winning a tight match in three games 22-24, 21-17, and 21-18 against Zhu Xuan Chen.

China Taipei and Indonesia (girls) and South Korea and Indonesia (boys) were the teams that suffered defeat in the semifinals.

China almost lost in the men's semifinals against South Korea after falling behind 0-2. South Korea took the lead through Yoo Tae Bin (men's singles) and the men's doubles Jin Yong/Kim Won Ho.

The hosts then responded through Hu Zhe An's singles, the men's doubles pair of Chen Jun Ting/Liu Jun Rong, and Dong Tian Yao's singles.
