Pecel Lele Viral, Tourists In Malioboro Asked Not To Be Afraid To Report If They Find Expensive Prices

YOGYAKARTA - The community in the tourist area of Malioboro asks tourists not to be afraid to submit complaints or reports to officers if they have an unpleasant experience during their trip. For example finding high prices or other unpleasant actions.

“Don't be afraid to report if you experience unpleasant treatment. Submit a report in detail, where and when the follow-up efforts from the community are right on target," said Head of the Tri Dharma Rudiarto Cooperative in Yogyakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 1.

Tri Dharma is one of the cooperatives that houses street vendors in the Malioboro area kawasan

After the price of pecel catfish went viral, a number of complaints appeared on social media accounts belonging to the Yogyakarta City Government. One of them was complaints from tourists who stated that they had been treated unfavorably after bidding on prices in Malioboro but did not buy them because the prices offered were still deemed unsuitable.

Rudiarto said that he always emphasized to all members of his community to serve buyers with a smile, greeting, and greeting.

"After all, buyers are kings and as traders, they must be friendly because Yogyakarta is also known for its friendly citizens," he said.

However, continued Rudiarto, buyers are also asked to be polite and not to humiliate traders when buying or bidding on goods.

“Sometimes, there are also consumers who behave like that. Traders who feel humiliated then behave less well," he said.

He ensured that the entire community in Malioboro is committed to providing the best service because all of them depend on their fate and life from tourism in Malioboro.

"Of course, we must also provide good service if during a pandemic like now when Malioboro visitors have not fully returned to normal," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Yogyakarta Cultural Conservation Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Ekwanto asked tourists to also be smart, namely asking for prices when going to eat or shop along Jalan Malioboro.

“For culinary street vendors, I make sure that all of them have put up a menu price list. If someone has not installed it, then report it to me and I will close the stall," he said.

As for street vendors who sell souvenirs along Malioboro, bargaining is a common thing to do.

“If you receive unpleasant treatment, you can immediately report to the security officer, Jogoboro, who is at each zone gate. Or through the telephone number listed on the zone gate. Complaints will definitely be followed up," he said.

He will also ask the entire community to improve services to visitors. "Every month I meet with the community and at the meeting it is always conveyed to provide the best service to tourists," he said.

Until now, Ekwanto said, the complaint channel opened by UPT Cultural Heritage has not received any complaints from tourists. "Either because of lazy reporting or other reasons," he said.
