Two Killers of Spanish Citizen in Senggigi Charged 18 Years in Prison

JAKARTA - The public prosecutor of the Mataram District Prosecutor's Office has asked the Mataram District Court, West Nusa Tenggara, to impose a sentence of 18 years in prison on Suhaeli and Heri, two defendants in the murder of Spanish citizen Maria Matilda Munoz Cazorla.

"Demanding, asking the panel of judges to impose a sentence on the defendant one Suhaeli and defendant two Heri with a sentence of 18 years in prison," said Ni Made Saptini representing the public prosecutor's team reading the prosecution material in front of the Mataram District Court Panel of Judges, Wednesday, February 4, reported by ANTARA.

The prosecutor asked the panel of judges to impose the sentence by stating that the actions of the two defendants had been proven to violate the first alternative charge of Article 459 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

"That the actions of the two defendants have been proven to have jointly committed premeditated murder of the victim Maria Matilda Munoz Cazorla," he said.

The prosecutor's consideration for setting such a demand is based on the facts revealed in the trial, both from the testimony of witnesses, experts, and evidence that have been presented before the panel of judges.

The fulfillment of the criminal element of premeditated murder is related to the intention of the two defendants who initially would steal valuables belonging to the victim.

"In the facts of the trial, it was revealed that the two defendants were beside the pool monitoring the victim's position in the Bumi Aditya hotel room for quite some time," said the prosecutor.

In the second conversation, the defendant revealed, Heri asked Suhaeli "What if he (Maria Matilda) wakes up?". This was answered by Suhaeli by stating "We execute him (Maria Matilda)".

In addition, the prosecutor also made Suhaeli's act of taking a towel from the hotel's laundry room before acting as a complete proof of the intention to commit premeditated murder.

The towel was used by the two defendants to cover the victim. The two defendants then freely abused the victim until he eventually died slowly due to bleeding on the head.

After the material of the indictment was read, the two defendants through their legal advisors asked the panel of judges for one week to prepare a defense note.

The chairman of the panel of judges, Kelik Trimargo, then decided that the trial with the agenda of reading the defense note from the two defendants would be held on Wednesday (11/2).

Maria Matilda was killed and her body was found buried on the coast of the Senggigi area, West Lombok Regency, about a month after being killed by the two perpetrators in early July 2025.

The existence of Maria Matilda's body was revealed after the police arrested the two perpetrators from tracking the victim's cell phone that was pawned in the West Lombok area.
