Ciliwung Bogor Shipment Floods, Dozens of RTs in Jaktim are Submerged up to 3 Meters

Jakarta - The overflow of the Ciliwung River, triggered by local rain and water from upstream, caused flooding in 38 neighborhood units (RT) in East Jakarta, Friday, January 30. The water level at several points was reported to be up to three meters.

Head of the Regional Coordinator Task Force of the East Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ali Kojim, said the flooding occurred due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River, which was exacerbated by heavy rain from Thursday evening to Friday morning.

"Floods submerged 38 RT in two sub-districts. The water level in some locations reached more than three meters. The main cause is the overflow of the Ciliwung River and local rain," said Ali when confirmed.

In addition to the rain in the Jakarta area, water discharge is also influenced by upstream shipments. On Thursday evening, the water level (TMA) of the Ciliwung River at Bendung Katulampa, Bogor, was recorded as rising to 120 centimeters (cm) or in Alert Status 3. This condition indicates an increase in the volume of water that moves towards the Depok to Jakarta area in the next few hours.

As of 06.00 WIB, the flood was recorded as widespread in two sub-districts, five villages, and 13 RW. A total of 581 heads of households (KK) or 1,830 people were affected.

The worst area is in the Kramat Jati District, covering Cililitan, Cawang, and Balekambang villages.

In Cililitan, flooding inundated Jalan Musholla Al Hikmah and Jalan Seruni with a water height of 200 cm.

Meanwhile, in Cawang, the most extreme condition occurred in the Jalan Taman Harapan area, RW 03. The water level rose sharply from 210 cm in the early morning to 350 cm before morning. A three-meter-deep puddle also occurred on Jalan Raya Kalibata Gang Haji Maliki.

In Balekambang, water flooded Jalan Balai Rakyat with a fluctuating height of between 100-165 cm.

The flood also spread to Jatinegara District, specifically in Kampung Melayu and Bidara Cina villages. In Kampung Melayu, the puddle on Jalan Kebon Pala II reached 150-185 cm, while in the Lowlands it ranged from 60-70 cm.

In Bidara Cina, the water on Jalan Baiduri Bulan and Tanjung Lengkong Gang Macan rose gradually to 170-200 cm in the morning.

Ali emphasized that BPBD continues to carry out intensive monitoring and alert personnel in all affected areas, considering that the discharge of Ciliwung water is still potentially changing along with the upstream and local rainfall.

"Officers are still on standby because there is a potential for a subsequent increase in water," he said.

As of Friday morning, a number of areas in East Jakarta were still flooded, while emergency handling and cross-agency coordination continued.
