PAM JAYA Dispatches 1 Million Al-Qur'an Aid to Sumatra
JAKARTA - For many people in disaster-affected areas, loss is not only about houses and belongings, but also about places of worship and learning activities that have been an important part of daily life.
In a number of areas in Sumatra that were hit by floods, such as North Sumatra and Aceh, many pesantren, madrasahs, and places of worship were affected, including the damage to the Al-Qur'an mushaf used by students and residents.
This condition has led to the birth of the Sedekah 1 Juta Al-Qur'an program which was initiated by a collaboration between PAM JAYA and the Original Madura Society (MADAS) Nusantara as a form of social concern for people in need.
Through this collaboration, as many as 1 million Qur'ans will be distributed to various pesantren, madrasah, and places of worship, with the main priority to the Sumatran region affected by the flood disaster, including North Sumatra and Aceh.
This program is a response to the many requests and needs for the Qur'an that were conveyed by the community to MADAS Nusantara after the disaster.
All the Qur'an will be distributed in the near future to areas in need.
PAM JAYA President Director, Arief Nasrudin, explained that PAM JAYA's involvement in this program is part of the company's commitment to be present not only as a provider of piped drinking water services, but also as part of a community that cares about the social conditions around it.
"We understand that post-disaster recovery not only concerns physical infrastructure, but also the spiritual and religious education needs of the community. Through this collaboration, we hope that the Qur'an distributed can help the community, especially the students, to return to activities and study more calmly," said Arief in a written statement.
The collaboration between PAM JAYA and MADAS Nusantara is expected to be part of a joint effort to support the social recovery of disaster-affected communities, as well as strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation and concern.
