Europe will Accelerate the Development of Wind Energy in the North Sea
JAKARTA - The participating countries of the North Sea Summit in Hamburg, Germany, agreed to accelerate the development of wind energy and the coordination of offshore energy infrastructure.
"The energy ministers of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom signed a declaration agreeing to jointly develop 100 gigawatt of offshore wind energy by 2050," the Dutch cabinet said, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 27.
The Dutch government explained that these countries also agreed to increase cooperation in planning offshore energy infrastructure, reducing costs, accelerating infrastructure development, and strengthening Europe's energy supply.
In June 2024, the Dutch government decided to allocate more than 41 million euros (around Rp815.4 billion) to protect infrastructure and strengthen security in the North Sea.
According to Dutch government records, a year earlier, they had decided to start an interdepartmental North Sea Infrastructure Protection Program (PBNI) because of plans by several countries to "sabotage vital offshore infrastructure, such as pipelines and data cables."
