Arctic Monkeys End Hiatus with New Single for Humanitarian Mission

JAKARTA - British rock indie band Arctic Monkeys officially confirmed the presence of their latest musical work this week.

Not only releasing new material, Alex Turner et al. went down the mountain to raise funds for War Child, an international non-profit organization that focuses on the protection and education of children in conflict areas.

This certainty ends the long speculation of fans who have smelled the existence of secret activities from the group since the middle of last year.

Through the announcement of the official Instagram account of War Child Records, the new Arctic Monkeys song is scheduled to be released on Thursday, January 22 at around 22.00 WIB.

"New song from Arctic Monkeys and more information about our upcoming project to support children living in war," War Child Records wrote, quoting the description of the upload, Wednesday, January 21.

The signal of the Arctic Monkeys' return to the recording studio actually began to be sniffed out when their loyal producer, James Ford, and drummer Matt Helders, re-shared War Child's post on social media.

The post was accompanied by a cinematic video clip showing a child running towards the sea in slow-motion format, accompanied by the background sound of children's laughter and a tranquil musical instrument with slight distortion.

Although the title of the song is still a secret, public enthusiasm is overflowing considering this is the first material of the Arctic Monkeys since the massive world tour which ended in October 2023.

This move also strengthens the suspicions of some fans who had been monitoring the band's official website, which last summer, they secretly updated the homepage from the "The Car" album design to a plain green background and launched a new record company entity.

War Child itself has a long track record of involving top musicians. If this project develops into a full charity album, it will follow in the footsteps of the "Help" album (1995) which involved Oasis, Radiohead, to Blur, and managed to raise more than 1.25 million pounds.

To date, Arctic Monkeys are the first big name confirmed in War Child Records' latest project this year. However, the involvement of other musicians seems to be just a matter of time, given that the charity's social media accounts are also followed by a number of big names such as Damon Albarn, Depeche Mode, Foals, and Fontaines D.C.
