Yali and Lanny Tribe Wars End Peacefully, Wamena is Safe Again

WAMENA - The Jayawijaya Regency Government (Pemkab), Papua Mountains, has ensured that the security situation in Wamena City has returned to a conducive state after the tribal war between the Yali Tribe and the Lanny Tribe. The clash was triggered by the death of a problem that did not find a common ground in the initial settlement process.

Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib said that the security and public order conditions in Wamena are currently safe and under control after approaching and dialoguing with the two warring groups.

"After we went down and talked to both groups, they finally agreed to end the war and make peace," said Atenius Murib, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 21.

He explained that the resolution of the conflict between the two tribes was mediated by the Deputy Governor of Papua Mountains Ones Pahabol, Deputy Regent of Lanny Jaya Fredi G Tabuni, and the Jayawijaya Regency Government. Through the mediation process, both parties expressed their willingness to stop the tribal war.

"From the results of the mediation, both the Yali Tribe and the Lanny Tribe agreed to stop the war and make peace," he said.

As a form of concern and support for the peace process, the Jayawijaya Regency Government also provided humanitarian assistance to both parties. The assistance in the form of rice was handed over to the Yali Tribe and the Lanny Tribe, with a total of four tons of rice.

"We as the parent district that has given birth to seven districts in the Papua Mountains feel the need to be directly involved in handling this conflict. We provide rice assistance so that both parties can return to their respective homes and undergo the peace process," said Atenius.

He added, the local government together with the security apparatus continues to carry out supervision to ensure that the situation remains conducive. The Jayawijaya Regency Government hopes that community activities in Wamena City can return to normal without security disruptions.

"We ensure that the security and order situation remains safe so that the community can return to their normal activities," he said.
