KLH Verifikasi Aktivitas 70 Perusahaan di Daerah banjir Sumatera

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has and is conducting field verification of the activities of 70 company entities in three provinces affected by the Sumatra floods at the end of last year.

"So there are 70 entities. That is against entities or business entities, whether they are actively contributing, suspected of contributing, or not contributing. But we still do field verification and also have orders to conduct environmental audits of companies in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra," said Deputy Head of Environmental Law Enforcement (Gakkum) KLH/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Rizal Irawan reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 15.

Rizal said that the entities currently undergoing field verification in Aceh numbered 22 business entities and 11 entities that had completed verification. In North Sumatra, seven companies are currently undergoing the process and eight have been verified.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra there are four business entities that are being verified and 18 have been completed.

He explained that environmental audits and thorough verifications were carried out on all business entities as a precautionary measure, assessing the potential of business activities whether they would have an impact on environmental conditions and become a factor in disasters.

"So as anticipatory steps so that companies that yesterday may not have contributed, when they are ordered to audit their environment they will know whether their company is safe or not, whether there are deficiencies or not. So that anticipatory steps can be taken when there is climate change or there is an increase in extreme rainfall like yesterday or there is a landslide," he explained.

Of the 70 business entities, KLH/BPLH has imposed administrative sanctions on 11 entities in Aceh, eight in North Sumatra and 12 in West Sumatra.

Meanwhile, as many as eight companies in North Sumatra and 10 companies in West Sumatra are in the process of environmental or civil disputes.

Regarding the criminal lawsuit, he said the law enforcement step would be carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police.
