Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yaqut is a Suspect of Corruption in Hajj Quota, Commission VIII of the DPR: KPK, Investigate Who is Responsible
Member of Commission VIII of the DPR from the PKB Faction, Maman Imanul Haq, responded to the designation of former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the case of alleged corruption in the 2024 Hajj quota by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
He asked the KPK to thoroughly investigate this case and punish those responsible.
Maman emphasized that the investigation of this case was important so as not to leave any questions in the community, especially Muslims who have high hopes for the implementation of a clean and fair hajj. The investigation of the hajj quota corruption, said Maman, must also be carried out thoroughly and openly.
"I ask the KPK to investigate this case thoroughly. Whoever is involved must be held accountable according to applicable law," Maman told reporters, Monday, January 12.
Maman also expressed respect for the ongoing legal process and left the handling of the case entirely to the KPK as the authorized law enforcement agency.
"We respect the legal process and leave it entirely to the KPK to carry out its duties professionally, independently, and transparently," said Maman.
The legislator from the West Java IX constituency hopes that this case of alleged corruption in the haj quota will be an important lesson for all policy makers so that in the future the implementation of the haj will be free from corruption, collusion, and nepotism.
"The pilgrimage is a sacred matter that concerns the interests of the people. In the future, we hope that the management of the pilgrimage will be more transparent, accountable, and truly in the interests of the congregation," concluded Maman.
As previously reported, the KPK has named former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as one of the suspects in the alleged corruption case for the 2024 hajj quota.
According to the KPK, evidence for the determination of suspects against Yaqut has been obtained even though the state's losses in the case are still being calculated.
