Tesla Celebrates 9 Millionth EV Production at Giga Shanghai with Model Y as World's Best-Selling Car for Three Years in a Row
JAKARTA - Elon Musk today just celebrated the success of the Tesla Model Y as the world's best-selling car (all categories of power sources) for three years in a row. He also shared this achievement through his X account.

In line with this, Tesla also reached a new milestone by celebrating the launch of the 9 millionth electric vehicle (EV) globally at its factory in Shanghai, China.
CNevpost, Wednesday, December 31, the model that launched was the Tesla Model Y.
Tesla has indeed built a fairly strong foundation in China and the construction of Tesla's factory in Shanghai began on January 7, 2019, and began operating at the end of 2019, marking the first fully foreign-owned automotive manufacturing project in China.
Giga Shanghai began delivering Model 3 sedans to local consumers in January 2020 and began delivering Model Y in January 2021. In fact, on August 13, 2022, the plant recorded the production of one million local vehicles that came off the assembly line.
Meanwhile, on September 6, 2023, Tesla's factory in Shanghai reached the milestone of producing the 2 millionth local vehicle, less than four years after it began operations.
The important achievements in the form of the 3 millionth and 4 millionth vehicle production at Giga Shanghai were achieved on October 11, 2024 and December 8, 2025, respectively.
With an annual production capacity of more than 1 million vehicles, this factory is Tesla's largest factory in the world. This factory not only supplies vehicles to customers in China, but also serves as an export center for the US electric vehicle manufacturer.
