SoftBank Completes Additional Investment of IDR 377 Trillion in OpenAI

JAKARTA - SoftBank Group Corp. announced that it has officially completed an additional investment of 22.5 billion US dollars or Rp377 trillion (exchange rate of Rp16,760) in OpenAI on December 26, 2025.

This investment is the second closing and the final stage of SoftBank's commitment to invest up to 40 billion US dollars (RpRp687 trillion) in the artificial intelligence developer.

"We are very aligned with OpenAI's vision to ensure AGI is beneficial to all of humanity," SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman & CEO Masayoshi Son said in a statement on SoftBank's official website.

With the completion of this investment, SoftBank has fully fulfilled the commitment announced in March 2025, along with the participation of a number of third-party investors. Overall, SoftBank's aggregate ownership in OpenAI now reaches around 11 percent.

Previously, SoftBank had made the first closing in April 2025 with an investment of 7.5 billion US dollars (Rp126 trillion) through SoftBank Vision Fund 2 (SVF2).

Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed SoftBank's support and its role in accelerating the development of global AI technology.

"SoftBank saw the potential of AI early on and is committed with deep conviction to its impact on humanity. Their leadership and global scale help us move faster and bring advanced intelligence to the world," Altman added.

This investment emphasizes OpenAI's position as one of the main players in the development of global artificial intelligence technology.
