Bengkulu Police Investigate the Cause of the Death of a Student from SMAN 9 Found in the Serut River
BENGKULU - The Bengkulu City Police (Polresta) are still investigating the cause of the death of a student at SMAN 9 Bengkulu City, Muhammad Fathi Dzulfikar (20), a resident of Rawa Makmur Village, who was found dead in the Serut River, Bengkulu City.
Bengkulu Police Chief Kombes Sudarno said, based on the results of the autopsy conducted at the Bengkulu Bhayangkara Hospital, water and sand were found in the victim's lungs.
"Many people are wondering about the continuation of the discovery of bodies in the Serut River. From the results of the temporary autopsy, sand and water were found in the victim's lungs. That proves that the victim died while drowning, not before drowning," said Sudarno in Bengkulu City, Antara, Wednesday, December 31.
He explained that the results of the autopsy strengthened the suspicion that the cause of the victim's death was drowning. However, investigators also found scars on the victim's body.
Currently, the police are still tracing the exact cause of Fathi's death, including ensuring whether the incident was an accident or there was an intentional element, such as being pushed to drown.
Sudarno revealed, based on temporary information, on the evening of December 28, the victim had been with a number of friends taking samcodin drugs. This activity was then reprimanded by members of Bhabinkamtibmas Teluk Segara Police and asked to disperse.
In a state of suspected drunkenness, the victim was then taken home by his friend in Rawa Makmur Village.
"After the victim was sent home, his friend returned to the hangout. The victim was at home. The next day we received a report that Fathi was found dead in the Bengkulu River," said Sudarno.
Until now, the police are still conducting examinations of a number of witnesses to determine the exact cause of the victim's death.
