Boxer Anthony Joshua Involved in Car Crash, Two Dead

JAKARTA - Former two-time unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a car accident in Nigeria, which resulted in two deaths.

The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan toll road. According to local police, the famous British boxer only suffered minor injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital that is still being kept secret along with several other injured victims.

Horrific photos of the scene released in various media reports show the 36-year-old boxer sitting in the middle passenger seat of the car.

Based on the videos shared on social media, Joshua had to be helped out of the wreckage of the accident. He seemed to moan in pain.

Eyewitness accounts described the incident to the Punch newspaper. They said Joshua was sitting directly behind the driver with others beside him.

"In total, there were four people in the Lexus who were involved in the accident. The bodyguard team was in the vehicle behind them before the accident," they said, quoted by Talksport.

The report said that Joshua was traveling in a Lexus SUV. The car hit a truck that was parked.

Eddie Hearn, who is Joshua's promoter, said he was on holiday with his family when he was shocked by the news of the incident.

"We are trying to get in touch with Anthony and in the meantime we don't want to speculate on his condition, but fortunately he seems to be doing well based on what I saw in the pictures."

"We are waiting for more information about what has happened and will provide updates in due course," he said.

Joshua traveled to Lagos, Nigeria, after successfully defeating Jake Paul in his latest boxing match earlier this month in Miami, United States.

Before the accident, Joshua had hinted that he would return to the boxing ring in February or March 2026.

Several options are being considered including a likely bout against Fabio Wardley or Moses Itauma, a rising young fighter.
