Banggar DPR: Sellers who refuse to pay in rupiah can be criminally liable

JAKARTA - The Budget Agency of the House of Representatives (Banggar DPR) RI reminds that if there are merchants or sellers who refuse to pay cash in rupiah, they can be subject to a maximum of 1 year of imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp. 200 million.

Chairman of the Banggar of the DPR RI Said Abdullah said the rupiah is a valid payment and its position is regulated in Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency.

"According to the law, the rupiah is a valid and valid means of payment throughout Indonesia. Therefore, it is not permitted for any party to refuse the use of the rupiah currency in the country," said Said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

Said's statement was made in response to the viral video on social media. The Instagram account @arli_alcatraz uploaded a video related to an elderly consumer being denied cash payment by a bakery on Thursday (18/12) at the Transjakarta stop located at Monas.
