Thai Military Condemns Cambodia Rocket Attack on Civilian Areas

JAKARTA - The First Army Command of Thailand has condemned Cambodian forces for a rocket attack that hit a civilian village near the border and called the action a violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.

The Thai military said on Thursday, December 25, 2025, that Cambodian troops fired as many as 40 BM-21 rockets into Ban Khlong Phaeng Village in Ta Phraya District, Sa Kaeo Province, in the morning.

The attack caused extensive damage to residents' homes, public facilities, farmland, and local roads.

The First Army Command of Thailand stated that the use of heavy weaponry against civilian areas showed a lack of good faith to resolve the conflict and was a deliberate violation of international law.

This escalation occurred following the death of a Thai soldier, Prajurit Thanaphat Nanthawong, who was killed in a clash on the border of Khok Sung District on December 23, 2025. He became the 23rd soldier to be killed since the resumption of hostilities on December 8, 2025.

A military ceremony was held on Thursday at Watthana Nakhon Air Base to pay the last respects to Prajurit Thanaphat, before his body was flown to his hometown in Amnat Charoen Province.

Meanwhile, although military talks between Thailand and Cambodia had begun in Chanthaburi Province, Thailand, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the situation in the border area was reportedly still unstable.
