KAI Usul Perbarui Stasiun Gambir

JAKARTA - The government emphasized the President's great attention to strengthening national railways as the backbone of public transportation, including the development of stations as the main node of mobility in the central area. This attention is reflected in the statement of the Cabinet Secretary to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to continue the development and arrangement of Gambir Station so that it is more in line with the dynamics of Jakarta urban mobility.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that strengthening the national railway was one of the President's focus in ensuring safe, comfortable, and affordable public transportation for the public, especially during the Christmas and New Year Transportation (Nataru) which involves tens of millions of national movements.

"If I can tell you, when I was a child I often went to Gambir Station. Then until now, yes, it's like that, it hasn't changed. So, while Mr. President, Mr. President pays great attention to railways, please renovate, repair, beautify, beautify, make it comfortable," said Teddy, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 24.

According to him, the momentum of the policy and the President's attention to national railways at this time is a strategic opportunity to bring the development of Gambir Station to a more advanced stage, not only as a departure station, but also as a representative urban public space.

"While Mr. President, the President is paying great attention to national railways, I propose that Gambir Station continues to be developed and improved. The rearrangement of the area, the update of facilities, and the strengthening of comfort aspects need to be carried out so that people's experience when using the train is better and in line with Gambir's role as a major national mobility node," he continued. to the Director of KAI.

In line with the direction, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin said that KAI is preparing to develop Gambir Station gradually as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area and a major intermodal node in central Jakarta.

"The development of Gambir Station is directed at optimizing land utilization through the arrangement of commercial zones and multifunctional public spaces, the integration of the station area with the activity center in the Medan Merdeka area, and the provision of diverse and segmented commercial functions," said Bobby.

In terms of connectivity, Gambir Station will be strengthened as an integrated transportation hub that connects Long Distance Trains, Commuter Lines, MRT Jakarta, and bus services seamlessly. The arrangement of the area also includes the integration of the station with public spaces and city parks in the Medan Merdeka area, including the National Monument area.

The arrangement of the outer space of the area building is designed by presenting vegetation elements in the space between buildings to the rooftop area to create a more shady, humanistic, and comfortable environment in the middle of the city center area.

During the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) Transportation period which took place on December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026, Gambir Station recorded a high service volume. Until Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 16.00 WIB, Gambir Station was recorded to serve 156,002 Long Distance Train customers for departure and 147,071 customers for arrival. This figure is still potentially increasing as ticket sales continue.

The data confirms the strategic role of Gambir Station as a national mobility node and strengthens the urgency of the continued development of the station area in accordance with government directives.

"KAI will implement the government's direction gradually with a focus on strengthening the function of Gambir Station as a main transportation node that is integrated with the Jakarta mobility and urban space system," concluded Bobby.
