Cardinal Suharyo Leads Christmas Pontifical Mass at Jakarta Cathedral

JAKARTA - The Archbishop of Jakarta, Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, is scheduled to lead the Christmas Pontifical Mass at the Jakarta Cathedral on Thursday (25/12) at 08.30 WIB, which is part of the series of Christmas celebrations held by the Cathedral Church during Christmas Day.

Jakarta Cathedral Church Public Relations Susyana Suwadie said his party had made maximum preparations to welcome the implementation of the Christmas Mass which was held four times on December 25, 2025.

"We will hold a Christmas Mass tomorrow, December 25, with four celebrations. At 08.30 WIB is the Pontifical Mass, which is usually held at Christmas and Easter, led directly by Father Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo together with the priests of the Archdiocese of Jakarta," said Susyana, Wednesday, December 24, reported by ANTARA.

Susyana explained that after the Pontifical Mass, the Jakarta Cathedral Church held a Family Mass at 11.00 WIB which was led by Father Yohanes Deodatus. In the mass, the homily will be delivered in a language that is easy for children to understand.

"The homily will be adjusted to the language of children so that they can understand the Christmas theme conveyed. The Christmas theme still refers to the Christmas message with PGI and KWI, namely 'God is present to save the family'," he said.

In addition, the Cathedral Church for the first time held a special Mass for the elderly at 16.00 WIB. This Mass was given as a convenience for the elderly without having to register first.

"The elderly can come directly, no need to register because we understand their limitations. Families can also accompany them," said Susyana.

The series of Christmas Masses at the Cathedral Church will be closed with an afternoon Mass at 18.00 WIB led by Romo Hani Rudi Hartoko.

Susyana also conveyed a Christmas message this year emphasizing the importance of the role of the family in the midst of various social problems.

"If we look at it now, there are many incidents related to the family. How about child trafficking, for example, and that is also related to the role of the family. So tomorrow we will wait for the special message given by Cardinal," said Susyana.
