Korlantas prepares real-time traffic engineering to face the Nataru surge
JAKARTA - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has prepared a strategy to secure Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 with a technology-based approach from an integrated command center. The decision on lane engineering is now taken in real time based on parameters of vehicle density that are monitored precisely.
Head of the National Police's Traffic Police, Inspector General Pol. Agus Suryonugroho explained that security was prioritized at crucial points such as ports, airports, tourist areas, and distribution routes. In addition to volume density, the police are also aware of the risk of extreme weather in the form of high rainfall that is predicted to occur until January.
"We are developing a strategy for action with clear targets to ensure the smooth and safety of the community during this long holiday," said Agus when reviewing the Korlantas command center, Wednesday, December 24.
According to Agus, the latest monitoring system now allows officers to send early warnings via location-based short message service for drivers on busy roads.
"The contraflow scheme to one way will be applied on a situational basis if the number of vehicle volumes has exceeded the threshold set," he added.
As a simulation, continued Agus, a one-lane contraflow at kilometer 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road will be opened if the volume reaches 5,500 vehicles per hour. If the density jumps to 6,500 vehicles, officers will increase to two lanes or implement a national one-way system if the situation continues to worsen.
"This responsive step is expected to be able to minimize long traffic jams on the main toll road," concluded Agus.
Korlantas urges the public to continue to monitor the latest information through official police channels to adjust their travel time.
