Russian Senior General Killed in Moscow Car Bomb Attack
JAKARTA - A car bomb attack in the heart of the Russian capital, Moscow, killed an army general on Monday morning, investigators said.
The head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, died from his wounds when an explosive device exploded under his car in southern Moscow, said Svetlana Petrenko, official spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee, reported Daily Sabah (22/12).
Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said it had opened an investigation into the "murder" of Lt. Gen. Sarvarov.
The possibility that the attack was "related" to "Ukrainian special forces" was among the lines of inquiry, the committee added.
"Investigators are pursuing various lines of inquiry in connection with the murder. One of them is that the crime was organized by the Ukrainian intelligence service," Petrenko added.
