Jayapura Customs Destroys Illegal Cigarettes and MMEA Worth Rp331 Million

JAYAPURA - The Jayapura Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC) has destroyed State Property (BMN) in the form of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages (MMEA) resulting from enforcement throughout 2025 with a value of IDR 331.38 million.

Head of the Jayapura Customs, Fungki Awaludin, said the destruction was the result of action against the illegal circulation of taxable goods (BKC) in the form of cigarettes and MMEA in the Papua Province.

"Throughout 2025 we have carried out 19 illegal cigarette seizures and eight illegal MMEA seizures with a total of 24,660 cigarettes and 324.02 liters of MMEA destroyed," said Fungki in Jayapura, Antara, Thursday, December 18.

He said that the circulation of illegal goods was estimated to have the potential to cause a loss of Rp53.66 million to the state if it circulated in the community.

"The modus operandi of the violations found was dominated by taxable goods without tax tape and the use of fake tax tape," he said.

According to Fungki, this action is not only aimed at securing the rights of the state from the tax revenue sector, but also protecting the public from the negative impact of illegal cigarettes and MMEA on health.

"We also encourage the creation of a healthy business climate by providing space for legal cigarette and MMEA business actors to compete fairly and develop in accordance with legal provisions," he said.

In addition to enforcement in the tax sector, the Jayapura Customs also synergizes with law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and precursors (NPP) as well as other prohibited goods.

"During this year we have carried out 10 NPP actions and two ammunition actions with evidence of marijuana type narcotics weighing 4,643.70 grams, 24.80 grams of marijuana seeds, and seven rounds of ammunition that have been handed over to the competent authorities," he said.
