Trump Warns Ukraine Crisis Could Trigger World War III
JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said he had recently warned someone to stop playing games related to resolving Ukraine's conflict by insisting the situation could trigger World War III.
"It actually has no impact on the United States unless the situation goes out of control... Things like this could lead to World War III. And I said that a few days ago," Trump said at the White House.
"I said, everyone keeps playing around like this. You will end up in World War III and we don't want to see that happen," Trump continued.
However, the US President did not mention to whom he delivered the warning.
"I think we are very close to Russia to reach an agreement. I also think we are very close to Ukraine to reach an agreement," he said.
Trump said the United States was seeking a solution, although it was not directly involved in the conflict but was only in the negotiation process. Ukraine and European countries, he continued, wanted the US to help resolve the situation.
On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported Trump, via a recent phone call, telling German, French and British leaders they must pressure Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept the US-proposed peace plan, which includes significant territorial concessions and Ukrainian military restrictions.
