Extreme Weather Phenomenon, BMKG Ternate Urges The Public To Increase Preparedness

TERNATE - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Sultan Babullah Ternate Class I Meteorological Station appealed to the government and the people in North Maluku (Malut) to continue to improve preparedness following the phenomenon of extreme weather.

Head of the Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Babullah Ternate, Sakimin, appealed to the local government and the community to ensure the readiness of infrastructure and water resource management to anticipate the impact of increasing rainfall and tree vulnerability.

Inter-institutional collaboration is also considered important in dealing with the impact of extreme weather phenomena.

"Intensive coordination, synergy, and communication between related parties are needed to increase disaster preparedness," he said in Ternate, Antara, Friday, December 12.

BMKG has issued an early warning related to extreme weather that has the potential to hit North Maluku for 12 to 17 December 2025. This warning was conveyed directly by the Head of the Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Babullah Ternate Sakimin in an official statement.

He said the results of monitoring atmospheric dynamics showed that there were bends and slowdowns in air masses around the North Maluku region. This condition has the potential to increase wind speed and trigger rain cloud growth in a number of areas.

In general, North Maluku's weather conditions for the period 12 December 17, 2025 were cloudy to light rain.

"However, the public needs to be aware of an increase in rainfall with moderate to heavy intensity which can occur fluctuately, both in the morning, afternoon/sore, and at night and in the early hours of the morning," he said.

BMKG also said that there were derivative impacts due to this hydrometeorological phenomenon, such as floods, flash floods, landslides, fallen trees, strong winds, and reduced visibility.

The BMKG detailed that areas have the potential to be affected by moderate to heavy rain during this period, including 11 December 12 2025 Morotai, North Halmahera Regency, West Halmahera Regency, East Halmahera, Central Halmahera. Tidore Islands City, Ternate City, South Halmahera Regency, Sula Islands, Taliabu Island and its surroundings.
