3 Iranian Revolutionary Guards Members Killed Attacked During Patrol Near Pakistan Border

Three members of the Revolutionary Guard were killed in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan in southeastern Iran, near the Pakistani border.

Members of the Revolutionary Guard were attacked while patrolling near the city of Lar in a mountainous area about 1,125 kilometers (700 miles) southeast of the capital Tehran, according to an IRNA official news agency report.

As reported by the Associated Press, Thursday, December 11, IRNA did not report whether any members of the Revolutionary Guard were injured in the attack.

Revolutionary Guards are pursuing the attackers they call "terrorists," but the perpetrators are still at large. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The province bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, one of Iran's most underdeveloped provinces, has been the site of deadly clashes involving militant groups, armed drug smugglers, and Iranian security forces.

In August, Iranian security forces killed 13 militants in three separate operations in the province a week after the group killed five police officers on patrol.
