The SO7 Deepal Electric Car Almost Failed To Win Five-Security Stars

JAKARTA - The Deepal S07 electric car almost degraded from the five-star safety rating after the software update was launched. Where, allowing drivers to permanently turn off the interference alert.

The feature, which is actually designed to increase vigilance, is actually considered 'disturbing', prompting manufacturers to present an option to disable it. As reported by Drive, Thursday, December 11.

The move immediately drew criticism from Euro NCAP, Europe's leading vehicle safety test institute. Because, it is considered inconsistent with modern safety standards.

Instead of perfecting the system, the car actually provides a way for users to turn it off completely. When S07 debuted about a year ago, his safety system did get the spotlight.

Drivers' attention monitors were considered too sensitive that some media called them Australia's most annoying cars. Responding to the complaint, Deepal released a software update mid-year to improve the function.

However, side effects are quite serious, attention monitors and off-track warnings can now be permanently disabled and non-reactive when the car restarts. Deepal still insists that the updated S07 still meets ANCAP's tight standards for five-star rankings.

However, the organization stipulates that the driver monitoring system must be active by default whenever the vehicle is turned on, a provision that is no longer fulfilled. As a result, the update had a direct impact on the S07 Safety Assist score.

Its value fell from 78 percent to exactly 70 percent, the minimum limit for maintaining five-star ratings. This decline was mainly due to the loss of 1.32 points from the driver monitoring feature, because it was considered no longer to provide intervention when fatigue or disturbances were detected.

"Euro NCAP is disappointed that it has lowered the rating of the driver monitoring system for S07, which is assessed in 2024, by allowing drivers to permanently disable disturbance warnings, instead of handling user complaints and increasing the overall system's resilience," read a statement. Euro NCAP.

It is not yet clear whether the changes implemented in Australia also apply in Europe, or only its deactivation function spreads to other markets. Meanwhile, another safety score in Deepal S07 has not changed.

The model still records 95 percent for adult passenger protection, 86 percent for child passengers, and 74 percent for vulnerable road users protection.
