Customs And Excise Performs Digital Transformation Amid The Threat Of Freeze By The Minister Of Finance Purbaya

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) officially introduced the new look of the website www.beacuki.go.id as a further step in the digital transformation of customs and excise services.

Director of Communication and Guidance for Customs and Excise Services, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, explained that this update was part of an effort to improve after DJBC received criticism from the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive.

According to him, the reprimand was an encouragement as well as motivation so that Customs and Excise could provide better services.

"Yes, it can be said to be like that. So we changed the new face and because of that the warning from Pak Purbaya was a challenge and a whip for us to be better. In accordance with our tagline, Customs and Excise is getting better," he told the media crew, Wednesday, December 10.

He added that all features on this new website were thoroughly redesigned to make it more mobile-friendly and in accordance with user behavior, which now dominates access to information via mobile devices.

According to him, the integration of various customs and excise services in one portal makes it easier for the public to navigate their needs, ranging from regulatory information, service procedures, customs facilities, to communication channels and public complaints.

"The access to customs and excise services is now more practical, fast, and mobile-friendly. All official Customs services are in one digital portal," he added.

In addition to improving the interface, he added that the content structure on the website is also strengthened by the application of search engines optimization (SEO), so that Customs information is easier to find through search engines.

According to him, the intuitive navigation design, faster page loading, and organized information systems make this website more efficient and adaptive.

"Through strengthening public communication and digital services on this website, we want to provide a transparent, adaptive, and solution experience for all service users," said Nirwala.

Nirwala said that this site update is a symbol of Customs commitment in improving public services.

The Customs and Excise Website is now coming with a new display and experience that is faster, lighter, and responsive. We want to ensure that customs and excise information and services can be accessed more easily and trustedly," he explained.

Nirwala emphasized that this new look prioritizes the needs of the community and gives an example that checking import duties for cellphones purchased from abroad can now be done directly through the website.

"Then also orientation for service users, even something like that can be asked anything. For example, what is trending now, oh yes, if I am from abroad carrying a new cellphone, I think I pay the import duty for how much? So in principle, we come back to be more dominant for the benefit of the community," he said.

For information, the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, stated that the Directorate General of Customs and Excise risks being frozen due to unsatisfactory performance, both by state leaders and by the public.

This situation arose after various problems emerged to the public, including the absence of supervision at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) airport and the case of the entry of 250 tons of illegal rice through Sabang, Aceh.

"We will clean it up. So Customs and Excise, I have called them, we have an internal meeting. We discuss it with them, I say this, the Customs image is not good in the media, in the community, in our highest leadership. So we have to fix it," he told the media crew, Thursday, November 27.

Purbaya said that he had asked President Prabowo Subianto to give one year to make improvements.

"I told them, I have asked the President for one year not to be disturbed first, give me time to improve Customs and Excise, because of serious threats," he said.

According to him, the government has also opened an option to submit customs and excise functions to a private Swiss company, Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS), as it was in the New Order era.

For information at the time, President Soeharto had frozen the Directorate General of Customs and Excise in 1985 due to rampant extortion and smuggling, and the condition lasted until 1995.

"If Customs and Excise cannot improve their performance and the public is still dissatisfied, Customs can be frozen, replaced with SGS. Like in the past," he said.

He emphasized that Customs and Excise employees already understand the risks, so they are now more eager to make improvements, one of the steps is to increase digitization in all Customs offices to prevent irregularities.

"Now the progress is quite good. I think next year it will be safe, meaning Customs will be able to work well and professionally," he said.

He reminded that there is a possibility that the Directorate General of Customs and Excise is frozen, which could have an impact on 16,000 employees.

"Because of this I said, if we fail to improve, then 16 thousand Customs employees will be laid off. Customs and Excise people are smart and ready to change the situation," he explained.
