Horrified, Russia Could Operate Nuclear Bombers From Air Bases In Asia

JAKARTA - Russian military authorities announced for the first time that they will be able to operationalize long-range, nuclear-capable strategic bombers from air bases in Asia, expanding their attack and training capabilities.

Yes, the Russian military can now use hmeymim air base located on syria's Mediterranean coast. The place where Russia launched airstrikes in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Speaking to Reuters, the Russian defense ministry said in a statement that three Tupolev Tu-22M3 long-range bombers had flown to Hmeymim, Syria.

It said the runway at the base had been made longer and one of them was upgraded, allowing Russia to operate aircraft of all types from the base.

"The three newly arrived bombers will hold exercises in a new geographic area over the Mediterranean Sea, before returning to their permanent airfield in Russia," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Earlier, a video from The Drive showing photos and videos of a Russian Tu-22M3 bomber apparently taken in Latakia Province off the Syrian coast, showed the plane now operating from the outpost of Khmeimim airbase.

The Tupolev Tu-22M3 is capable of carrying heavyweight guided air-to-surface missiles. The main advantage of the Tu-22M3 is its much larger payload, reaching 13 thousand pounds of bombs or can be maximized up to 52 thousand pounds at the expense of fuel capacity.
