World Anti-Corruption Day, Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Invites Women To Become The Front Guard Against Corruption

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, invites all Indonesian women to play a role in building an anti-corruption culture. Puan reminded that women must dare to fight practices that oppose the values of honesty and corrupt behavior.

The invitation was conveyed by Puan in commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) which is commemorated by the international community every December 9th.

"Every December, we commemorate the world's anti-corruption day. This serves as a reminder that corruption is an extraordinary crime that is our common enemy, therefore it presents a real threat to the nation's future," said Puan, Tuesday, December 9.

Puan reminded female public officials, both in Parliament and government from the center and regions, to use people's money as well as possible for the welfare of the people.

"State money must be used for the benefit of all the people. State money must be used to make the people prosperous," he said.

"When state money is misappropriated, it is the people who suffer the most, from collapsed schools, expensive medicines, to stagnant public services," continued Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture said that the Hakordia commemoration was a moment of invitation for all parties to unite action and eradicate corruption. In this effort, according to Puan, women play a strategic role in building an anti-corruption culture.

"As a mother, wife, and professional, women are the initial bulwark for the formation of the value of honesty and anti-corruption character. Therefore, I remind all Indonesian women, be brave to stand on the front lines against corruption," said the grandson of the Indonesian proclaimer, Bung Karno.

Puan also emphasized that every small step taken by policymakers will bring Indonesia one step closer to a clean and fair governance.

"On this World Anti-Corruption Day, let's strengthen our joint commitment, women with integrity, Indonesia with integrity. Unite action, eradicate corruption," concluded Puan.
