Bareskrim Telusuri Asal Kayu Gelondongan Yang Terbawa Banjir Aceh

The Directorate of Certain Crimes of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency is investigating allegations of illegal logging in the Tamiang River in order to trace the origin of logs dragged into the floods in Aceh.

"Initial information, in the upper reaches of the Tamiang River there are illegal logging (illegal logging) and land clearing (land clearing) activities by the community," said the Director of Certain Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni quoted by Antara, Tuesday 9 December.

He said that the illegal logging activity allegedly used a panglong mechanism. "The wood was cut, piled up on the banks, then washed when the water rose like a raft," he said.

Meanwhile, in land clearing, large wood is often cut small so that it is easy to get carried away during floods.

Irhamni emphasized that the majority of these activities were not licensed. "Development in protected forests along the Tamiang River, Aceh Tamiang Regency, the majority of them are not licensed and wood is not a type of hard wood," he said.

As a follow-up step, the Dittipidter Bareskrim Polri will send an additional team to investigate in the Tamiang River area.

"The investigation process will focus on illegal logging activities that occur along the upstream of the Tamiang river, Aceh," he said.

The National Police and the Ministry of Forestry sent a joint team to investigate the findings of logs in the flood disasters that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. In this case, the Dittipidter Bareskrim Polri became the main team in the investigation.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that if a violation is found, it will be prosecuted by the police.
