BMKG Predicts Rain In Many Regions Of Indonesia On Monday

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most parts of Indonesia will experience rain with various intensity on Monday, ranging from light rain, moderate rain, to rain accompanied by lightning, Monday, December 8.

BMKG Medayu Bestari forecasters said that several areas in western and eastern Indonesia were recorded to have the potential for rain that the community needed to anticipate.

Medayu said rain accompanied by lightning has the potential to occur in a number of cities, namely Padang, West Sumatra; Jambi; Bengkulu; Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands; Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Semarang, Central Java; Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan; Samarinda, East Kalimantan; and Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

"Meanwhile, in the eastern region, similar potential is also expected to occur in Ternate, North Maluku, and Merauke, South Papua," said Medayu, quoted by Antara.

Next, there is also the potential for moderate-intensity rain which is predicted to fall in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands; as well as in several eastern Indonesian cities such as Mamuju, West Sulawesi, and Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.

Then for the light rain category, the weather is predicted to occur in Medan, North Sumatra; Pekanbaru, Riau; Palembang, South Sumatra; Bandung, West Java; Surabaya, East Java; Pontianak, West Kalimantan; and Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.

Light rain also has the potential to flush Denpasar, Bali; Makassar, South Sulawesi; Palu, Central Sulawesi; Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi; Gorontalo; Manado, North Sulawesi; Ambon, Maluku; Sorong, Southwest Papua; Nabire, Central Papua; Jayapura, Papua; and Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains.

In addition to rain, a number of cities are also forecasted to experience thick cloudy weather, such as Banda Aceh, Aceh; Serang, Banten; Jakarta; Yogyakarta; and Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. The air escape is expected in Manokwari, West Papua.

BMKG then appealed to the public to remain alert to potential extreme weather and to regularly update weather information through the website www.bmkg.go.id and the Info BMKG application.
