Sigap Action The North Kalimantan Police Chief Saved 18 Speedboat Passengers Who Were Inflated In The Tarakan Sea

A humanitarian action took place in Tarakan waters on Friday, December 5, when the North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Police Chief Inspector General Djati Wiyoto Abhady, who was sailing from Nunukan to Tarakan, found a speedboat experiencing a state of emergency in the middle of the sea.

The Kaltara Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Djati Wiyoto Abhady, revealed that at that time the group found the Speedboat SB ANTASEA carrying 18 passengers adrift of running out of fuel and the engine was turned off right on the waterway which was getting dark towards night.

"The situation is increasingly risky because at 18.05 WITA, the weather is starting to dim and the flow of ship crossings on the route is almost non-existent," said the Kapolda, Sunday (7/12/2025).

"Looking at the conditions that threaten the safety of the passengers, the Kaltara Police Chief immediately ordered the team at Speedboat SB KAYAN 1 to carry out rescue operations," he continued.

It didn't take long, continued Inspector General Djati, at 18.26 WITA SB KAYAN 1 arrived at the location and immediately evacuated all SB ANTASENA passengers.

"The transfer process was carried out quickly and carefully before the group took the passengers to the Tarakan SDF Port," he explained.

Inspector General Djati said that this action was a reminder of the vital presence of the apparatus in ensuring public safety, especially in sea transportation routes that often face weather risks and technical conditions.

"The passengers who managed to survive could not hide their gratitude for the quick help," he said.

He emphasized that public safety was a priority after learning that a speedboat was adrift of passengers whose safety was threatened.

"We cannot remain silent. Thank God all passengers can be evacuated safely and arrived in Tarakan," said the former Deputy Chief of Metro Jaya Police.

He emphasized that this incident was an important lesson to tighten shipping safety standards.

"We will continue to coordinate with related parties so that similar incidents do not happen again and ensure that every sea trip has adequate safety standards. Thank you to all ranks who are alert in this rescue mission," he concluded.
