Blame The Weather, Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Is Called Not To Understand The Roots Of The Sumatra Disaster Problem
Member of Commission IV DPR RI Firman Soebagyo considered that Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno's statement that the flood and landslide disasters in Sumatra were the impact of weather, such as ignoring the root causes of disasters.
According to him, the statement made by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno was very wrong because it seemed to ignore the root of a much more serious problem, namely environmental and forest damage due to weak government policies.
"The government should focus on solving the real problem, namely environmental and forest damage, not making statements that do not help," said Firman in a written statement, Sunday, December 7.
This Golkar Party faction politician reminded that President Prabowo Subianto had given clear instructions regarding the handling of forest and environmental destruction, including the establishment of the Forest Destruction Task Force.
Therefore, Firman hopes that the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture will not take a counterproductive position towards the government's own efforts.
He stated that Pratikno's statement could make the situation worse and reflect the different perspectives between the government and the DPR RI in responding to environmental issues and natural disasters.
"This criticism shows that there are differences of opinion between the government and the DPR RI on how to deal with environmental problems and natural disasters," Firman continued.
