KAI Divre I Accelerates Fuel Distribution In North Sumatra Post-Extreme
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division I of North Sumatra said it continues to accelerate the distribution of fuel oil (BBM) which was hampered in the North Sumatra (North Sumatra) region due to extreme weather some time ago.
"This effort is made to support the stabilization of the energy needs of the community and industry in North Sumatra. The types of fuel transported through rail transportation services in North Sumatra include Pertalite, Bio Solar, and Pertamax," said KAI Public Relations Manager North Sumatra I M As'ad Habibuddin in Medan, quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 6.
He said the pattern of operations for fuel transportation experienced significant adjustments after the extreme weather.
"KAI adds fuel transportation trips from 2 trips per day to 4 trips per day to accommodate the increase in demand from Pertamina," he said.
The additional travel will take effect on November 28, 2025 until now. Previously, on November 24, the supply of fuel stocks from Pertamina to the North Sumatra region was hampered by bad weather at sea, which caused delays in the arrival of tankers, resulting in stock availability in Siantar and Kisaran.
As a form of support for supply normalization efforts, he said the volume of fuel transported by train also increased.
KAI recorded an average transport before bad weather of 42 cassava carriages or around 1,428 KL per day, and rose to 48 cassava carriages or around 1,632 KL per day after the intensification of distribution was carried out, he said.
The distribution of fuel via train currently serves two main relations, namely Labuan Siantar and Labuan Kisaran. In a series of trains, it consists of 21 calibre carriages to ensure optimal transport capacity.
On the safety side, KAI emphasized that operations to transport goods, especially fuel, still prioritize safety procedures and travel reliability even in extreme weather conditions.

"All facilities are ensured to be in good condition, undergoing surgery, and closely monitored to ensure the journey runs safely and smoothly," he said.
In addition, KAI continues to coordinate intensively with Pertamina to adjust the distribution pattern of fuel with market needs. Communications carried out include evaluating stock availability in Labuan, field demand, and adequacy of rail transportation facilities.
"KAI is fully committed to supporting the smooth supply of fuel. The addition of fuel transport train trips is a strategic step so that the energy needs of the community, industry, and public services are still met," said As'ad.
