Sumatra Flood Victims Threatened With Starvation, Puan Asks For Public Kitchens To Be Run Immediately

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani responded to the large number of flood victims in North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh who had not received logistical assistance in the form of food and were threatened with hunger.

Puan requested that public kitchens at the disaster site be carried out immediately, in order to prevent cases of hunger. He encouraged the government to immediately distribute food aid to isolated areas.

"What is certain is that the kitchen must be run immediately. However, the current raw materials are still limited, the problem must be resolved," said Puan to reporters, Friday, December 5.

Puan also hopes that the central government and local governments will be more responsive in dealing with victims affected by the floods and landslides that hit Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.

"But we believe that everything has worked as much as possible to do things that need to be done. Also friends in the DPR have also tried to help, do everything we can to help, do what we can," he said.

"And we hope that all the victims can be handled properly and the families who survived can be given strength," concluded Puan.
