West Java DPRD Urges Provincial Government To Prepare Disaster Warning Before Nataru Peak

BANDUNG Deputy Chairperson of the West Java (Jabar) DPRD, MQ Iswara, urged the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) to immediately move quickly to provide an early warning system and intensify disaster mitigation education to remote villages. This pressure was conveyed ahead of the peak of the movement of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Iswara asked the West Java Provincial Government not to be passive, given the prediction of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the increase in extreme rainfall which continued until December.

"We hope that the provincial government will provide an early notice, provide education regarding this natural condition so that people are more prepared and careful," said Iswara in Bandung, Thursday (4/12).

Residents Are Advised To Avoid Vulnerable Paths

Following the massive series of disasters that have just hit the Sumatra region, Iswara asked people planning year-end holidays not to force themselves to visit tourist destinations or cross routes categorized as prone to hydrometeorological disasters.

"Towards Christmas and New Year, we urge the people of West Java to really prepare themselves. Avoid areas that have the potential to be affected by natural conditions that cannot be predicted, considering that the rainfall is above average," said Iswara.

Iswara emphasized that the disasters that befell Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, which claimed lives up to around 770 people, must be a serious alarm for West Java residents not to ignore natural signs while traveling.

Three Crucial Steps For Homecomers

Iswara emphasized three crucial steps that must be taken by travelers and tourists before leaving their homes:

Monitoring regularly the official weather developments from the BMKG.

Selectively choosing destinations that are considered safe from potential landslides or flash floods.

Prepare well for emergency needs.

"We certainly don't want a disaster to happen, but vigilance is the key in the midst of this unusual natural condition," he said.

Finally, Iswara representing the West Java DPRD expressed his deep condolences for the disaster victims in Sumatra. He also encouraged the central and regional governments to prioritize the distribution of urgent assistance, such as food, baby needs, and medicines, to affected locations.
