Minister Of Finance Purbaya Will Be Diligent To Monitor Customs Performance
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadives said he would often review ports as a form of monitoring the performance improvement of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).
"I will often come to the port to make sure they don't play games anymore," said Purbaya when met at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 5.
In parallel, Purbaya said it would implement technology with an imitation trick (AI) system to monitor customs and excise activity at ports.
Especially for cigarettes, he said he wanted to place a cigarette retailer machine in early 2026.
"Maybe we will apply it at the beginning of the year, and it will run fully in May or June next year. So, there is a new system to monitor whether the excise field is fake or not. So it's serious," he said.
Previously, Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama said he was committed to improving performance, services, and removing the negative image of Customs and Excise.
"The point is that it is a form of correction. What is certain is that in the future Customs and Excise will try to be better," said Djaka at the Press Conference on the Destruction of Illegal Excise Goods at the DJBC Jakarta Regional Office, Wednesday (3/12).
For DJBC's improvement strategy, Djaka called the transformation of the work culture and increased supervision as a priority.
"Starting from culture, improving performance, then increasing supervision of whether it is at the port, at the airport. Of course we will improve all services," he said.
According to him, the improvement of services must be felt directly by the community.
Djaka explained that a number of improvements have been made at DJBC, including the use of AI technology to eradicate under-invoiting practices.

Furthermore, responding to the statement of the Minister of Finance Purbaya who asked for one year to fix Customs and Excise, Djaka said he was fully optimistic about the target.
Djaka said the aspects that need to be addressed include the quality of human resources (HR), equipment, and the image of the institution.
"Maybe we will eliminate the image in the community that Customs and Excise is a hotbed of extortion," he said.
