Bringing ICar Brands To Indonesia, Chery Ensures All Local Production Models

JAKARTA - The Indonesian automotive market is considered increasingly sexy in the eyes of various brands from China. The proof is that new brands continue to arrive, and most recently, the sub-brand of the Chery Group, iCar, is ready to enliven the national automotive market.

It is even confirmed that the brand will also appear at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2026 which will take place starting next February. Interestingly, the model that will be presented in Indonesia will later be produced locally.

This was revealed by the Head of Brand & Marketing Department of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), Rifkie Setiawan. According to him, all models produced by the Chery Group have the status of CKD.

"Indeed, all CKD will be produced by the Chery Group, and when IIMS will be announced," he said when met in Kuningan, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 2.

Chery is indeed starting to open up little by little their commitment in the national automotive market. Without much fanfare, the Chinese manufacturer has actually poured fantastic investments of IDR 5.2 trillion to strengthen their foothold in Indonesia.

The large investment is believed to be an important foundation for Chery's long-term plans, including the construction of independent factories in the country. Currently, all Chery models sold in Indonesia are still being assembled at facilities owned by PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi. From this facility, the line of Chery products is produced to meet the requirements for the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of at least 40 percent.

"Currently, maybe my friends also know, we have CKD. The scheme, some of our units have reached a minimum of 40 percent in terms of TKDN," said PT CSI Sales Director Budi Darmawan, in Bogor, some time ago.
