KPK Please Extradition Paulus Tannos Quickly Resolved After Pretrial Lawsuit Rejected

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the extradition of suspects in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) corruption case, Paulus Tannos, to the country, will soon be resolved.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo in response to Paulus Tannos' pretrial lawsuit which was rejected by the South Jakarta District Court (PN) today, December 2. He said that this decision is expected to have an impact on the efforts to repatriate Paulus Tannos who was arrested in Singapore.

"We hope that from this pretrial decision, we can also encourage the extradition process to be completed soon, yes, so that the investigation of the case against Paulus Tannos can be continued immediately," said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo to reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, December 2 evening.

To ensure this extradition process, continued Budi, the KPK is also actively coordinating with the Ministry of Law, Attorney General's Office to the Indonesian Embassy.

Budi also appreciated Paulus Tannos' pretrial decision which was knocked by the Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court. This means that the formal aspects that have been carried out by the KPK are all in accordance with the procedure.

As previously reported, the South Jakarta District Court (PN) decided to reject the request for a pretrial lawsuit from a fugitive in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of an electronic ID card (e-KTP) Paulus Tannos against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"In the main case, the applicant's pretrial is unacceptable," said single Judge Halida Rahardhini in the main courtroom of the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, confiscated by Antara.

Halida assessed that Paulus Tannos' pretrial application was premature (error in objecto). This means that the investigation into the alleged corruption case of e-KTP related to Paulus Tannos will continue.

Paulus is known to have been named a new suspect in the development of an investigation into a corruption case in the procurement of electronic ID cards on August 13, 2019. The KPK revealed that the state's financial losses in this case were around Rp. 2.3 trillion.

However, Paulus Tannos fled abroad and changed his identity to Thian Po Tjhin. He has been on the wanted list (DPO) or fugitive from the KPK since October 19, 2021.

Paulus was later arrested in Singapore in early January 2025. The current extradition process is still being carried out in accordance with the agreement signed by Indonesia-Singapore.
