BMKG Issues Early Warning Of Heavy Rain In Several Cities On December 2

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Tuesday, December 2.

Forecasts from Lintang explained that in general, convergence areas extend from the southern waters of Rote Island to the Flores Sea and from the Banda Sea to the Arafuru Sea, from the northern waters of Aceh to North Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia to the Riau Islands, western waters of Lampung to Jambi, South Indian Ocean Yogyakarta to the Java Sea, Natuna Sea to North Kalimantan, Savu Sea to Southeast Sulawesi.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along areas that are passed by convergence or convergence.

Therefore, his party predicts that several major cities will have the potential to experience moderate to very heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, including Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, Palangkaraya, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Mataram, Ternate, Mamuju, Manado, Kupang, Merauke.

Meanwhile, several other big cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Priok, Jambi, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Palu, Gorontalo, Makassar, Kendari, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Nabire and Jayawijaya.

Several other big cities are predicted to experience only cloudy conditions today, including Padang and Banda Aceh,

Earlier on Monday (1/12) in Jakarta, Head of BMKG Teuku Faisal Fathani explained that in the next two months the areas of Java, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), parts of South Sulawesi, South Papua, and Kalimantan will experience high to very high rainfall.

He also mentioned the potential for cyclone seeds or tropical cyclones in the southern waters of Indonesia to NTT, Arafura Sea, and southern Papua.

Areas that need to increase vigilance are Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, Java, Bali, NTB, NTT, Maluku, South Papua, and Central Papua.

He added that the November 2025-April 2026 period is a phase of growth of tropical seeds or cyclones in southern Indonesia which has the potential to cause heavy rain and strong winds.
